The days when we had to build our FPV drones ourselves to ensure a flawless flight are rapidly coming to an end. With companies like Diatone, DJI, iFlight and the like, FPV drones are becoming great filming tools that are ready to go. Without the need for special knowledge or tinkering. This is great for pilots who just want to have fun flying and are not so interested in building and repairing drones.
But choosing a ready-made copter can quickly prove difficult without prior knowledge. With the market flooded with newer, better and simpler drones, it's easy to lose track. That's why I'd like to introduce you to the Defender 25, a compact, safe and powerful drone from iFlight.
iFlight is known for its easy-to-use drones and innovative ideas. This time, they're coming up with a few new things that will revolutionize the cinematic side of FPV drones. So if you're looking for an innovative drone for the year 2023, then this is the drone for you. Why?
One of the easiest changes to notice with this model is the battery and yes - it's just a 4S battery with a case for now. But! With the battery included with the Defender, you can be sure that this battery won't pop out on its own (like the AVATA). This is due to the clips that iFlight has attached to the sides. No more Velcro and worrying about the battery popping out during flight or after a crash. This holds it in place and also ensures that there is less vibration from the battery itself.
Of course, you can also use your own batteries. For example, the Tattu R-Line 650mAh 4S LiPo battery is suitable.
The Defender 25 uses an XT30 connector for its 4S 550mAh/900mAh batteries.
iFlight has solved a number of problems... One of them is that the antennas of this FPV drone are hidden in the frame. This means it is more difficult to destroy them. With these antennas, a range of up to three kilometers is possible.
The iFlight Defender 25 comes with a range of receiver solutions such as DJI, TBS Crossfire and ELRS.
The maximum speed of the iFlight Defender 25 is 100km/h.
The flight time with a 550 mAh battery is approximately 5-6 minutes.
The flight time with a 900 mAh battery is up to 10 minutes.
There are a few things to keep in mind when making such a comparison. The form factor of the drone is similar, the camera is the same... but that's probably where the similarities end.
Many pilots just starting out in the hobby value safety features like GPS or other sensors. These options are missing here. The Defender 25 is designed to be lightweight, versatile and capable of FPV tricks. It is therefore aimed more (but not exclusively) at slightly more experienced pilots. However, depending on the intended use, the lack of safety functions may not be a problem or even offer more possibilities for a breathtaking flight.
If you have some FPV skills and want a simple and lightweight drone that you can take anywhere, the new iFlight Defender 25 is a great choice (for indoor flights - always fly in ANGLE mode). Thanks to the propeller guard and small size, it is a safe choice for younger and older pilots. The propeller guards and robust construction ensure that the copter can cope well with light crashes. As the battery is also mounted on top, it should be no problem to turn the copter around and get it back in the air after a crash using turtle mode. The Defender 25 is acro-capable and you can easily do tricks with it, making it one of the most versatile drones in this category!
What to consider: The Defender 25 requires the DJI Goggles (either the DJI FPV Goggles V2 or DJI Goggles 2), which are slightly more expensive. But if your first drone was already a DJI FPV setup, then you are already well equipped. As a controller, you can either use the DJI FPV Remote Control 2 or any controller equipped with Crossfire.
We hope this blog post has given you some information about the newest member of the iFlight family and answered some of the questions you may have had about it. Let us know on Instagram what you think about it or if you're already successfully flying it.
See you next time!
