News: Fat Shark announces cooperation with Walksnail

Hello, Lexie here aka MaiOnHigh!

We have news again on the absolute hottest FPV topic at the moment! As we wrote in our previous post, Fatshark recently announced their brand new goggles and HD 1080p system. Rotor Riot pilots have already been able to test the new Dominator at the Rotor Riot Rampage. There are still many rumors circulating on the internet and the question still remains whether there is a connection to DJI for the system. But let's start from the beginning:

13. May 2022

Joshua Bardwell releases the video about the new goggle from Fat Shark. The new Fat Shark Dominator HD Digital System promises 1080p HD video feed, lower latency, canvas mode support and video out. The Rotor Riot pilots have already been able to get an overview. The first tests look promising, although many pilots quickly noticed that it looks like a DJI product. Shortly afterwards, the first reports emerged that Fatshark could be linked to a company called Walksnail.

Now personally, I have to say that I wouldn't go after Fat Shark too hard when it comes to their new system. Collaborations and cooperation are a good thing and it's absolutely fine to do them. Starting with ByteFrost, Fat Shark's first HD system, which was also a collaboration, to SharkByte, which later disbanded and spawned HDZero, and now the Dominator HD system. This shows that Fat Shark is really trying to do its best to keep FPV within the FPV community. Now is WalkSnail associated with DJI or not - no one seems to be able to reliably judge that yet. Personally, I am always happy and satisfied when I get good, functioning equipment that I can support with a clear conscience. So to see DJI pilots taking action against Fat Shark for working with someone affiliated with DJI is... to me.... well... questionable.

Today, May 18, 2022, Fat Shark has now published its statement about the cooperation with Walksnail.

The text can be translated as follows:

Last week we announced the Dominator, our new goggle for the next generation of digital FPV. Today we are proud to officially announce Walksnail as our partner in bringing this new technology to market. Walksnail is responsible for developing the first receivers and transmitters for this new 1080p FPV system. The Fat Shark Dominator is the first goggle to fully integrate Walksnail's receiver. We are excited to support this new HD FPV system. It was designed for the FPV community to give them everything they need for their high performance drones, including lower latency, canvas mode support and video output. Last weekend, Rotor Riot Rampage pilots were able to test prototypes of the Fat Shark Dominator and Walksnail transmitter. We are thrilled with the feedback we received and expect to begin shipping production units in June.

Could this be a new beginning for Fat Shark? Or, as some are rumoring, the beginning of the end? I think Fat Shark has done a lot for the FPV community as a whole and for the hobby itself. Greg and his team have worked hard to achieve the best possible quality for the goggles. And from a marketing standpoint, it makes sense.

See you soon, Lexie!
