Christmas time is approaching and with it the opportunity to delight your loved ones with special gifts. If you're lucky enough to have an FPV pilot in your circle of friends or family, you may be faced with the exciting challenge of finding the perfect gift for that tech enthusiast. In the world of first person view (FPV) flying, there are countless ways to inspire both experienced and budding pilots. Are you looking for a last-minute gift or need inspiration for the ideal present that will get the adrenaline pumping? In this blog post, together we'll discover a variety of gift ideas that will not only delight the FPV pilot in your life, but may also inspire you to make a wish for yourself.
For all those who are not familiar with the FPV drone hobby, here are a few things to consider when giving a gift.
There are products that can be used by any FPV pilot. At the same time, however, there are also products that should be tailored to the pilot's drone setup. These include, for example, propellers, batteries and remote controls.
Propellers must be matched to the size of the drone, the motors installed and the batteries used. The easiest way to do this is to look at the designation on the propellers that are currently attached to the drone. For example:
If the propellers are labeled 5x4x3, they are 5 inch propellers with a pitch of 4 inches and 3 blades.
5 inch propellers with 3 blades can be found here. We have a large selection of all other sizes in this category.
The same applies to batteries: It is best to take a look at the pilot's existing batteries. Important details are the number of cells (1S to 6S), the capacity (mAh) and the connection (XT30, XT60, BT2.0 etc.). As an example: Many pilots with a 5 inch drone fly 6S batteries with a capacity of 1300 to 1550 mAh and XT60 connectors. One manufacturer of good LiPo batteries is Tattu. If you want to save some money, you can also use batteries from CNHL.
With remote controls and receivers, you should also make sure that they are compatible with the existing equipment. If the FPV pilot uses a TBS Crossfire receiver in his drone, you should only give away a remote control or module that is compatible with this receiver and vice versa. The TBS Crossfire system is very popular due to its quality and reliability.
Another popular (and new) radio system is ExpressLRS or ELRS for short. Drones with ELRS receivers are compatible with ELRS remote controls and ELRS modules.
