Hello race pilots,
Lexie here aka MaiOnHigh!
Who isn't happy about a few new goodies? Let's put it this way: for me it's like a bag of freshly baked rolls... But now a bit more seriously. I recently got to test the brand new Tattu V5.0 - a few days before the official release date of June 8th.
What is the R-Line?
R-Line is a cutting-edge product line from Tattu designed specifically for professional FPV racing competitions. The Lipos have a higher capacity, lower resistance and lower landing temperature. In general, R-Line batteries have the same specifications as Tattu's popular Toppilot batteries. There are different R-Line versions for the requirements of different FPV racing competitions. What's new is that the R-Line V5 is the first Lipo to use the exclusive Al Boehmite technology, which offers a significant improvement in overall performance and continuous power output.
So I've already had some time to put them through their paces before they've even hit the market. Let's start with what's new. Because honestly, what new thing can Tattu develop on a Lipo? The answer is: a whole lot! The new V5.0 is equipped with Al Boehmite, which is also used in the battery cells. But what is Al Boehmite? Is it a chip? A technology? I say it's an AI!
I bet you're reading that as Artificial Intelligence now, aren't you? Unfortunately wrong, because "Al" stands for aluminum and boehmite is a high temperature resistant aluminum oxide hydroxide. The functional filler is used as a carrier material for catalysts or as a flame retardant in printed circuit boards. If you are interested in this topic, here is a link to a study on the subject. In general, it can be said that it is a promising technology for lithium-ion batteries. The technology is generally used in high-temperature systems. And that includes LiPo batteries. I bet you've flown your quad really wildly once or twice, so much so that your hands have warmed up. Al Boehmit also allows for more even power delivery across the cells and consistency between cells. Which in even simpler terms means NO SAG
Sounds great doesn't it, but what about performance? I can't really show you anything here that speaks for or against this battery when it's used on my flights. Mainly because I use the best technology anyway. The experience with the Lipo will of course vary from pilot to pilot. Racing pilots may use and (mis)use the batteries differently and achieve different results than freestyle pilots. Also make sure that you look after your batteries as well as possible. This way they should last a while and serve you well.
