In our new video, we show you what Toothpick FPV copters are and what advantages they offer. With the new FPV Copter from GEPRC and a Naked Gopro 8 (i.e. a Gopro with a reduced housing and no battery), breathtaking shots can be created even at this scale.
What is an FPV Toothpick drone?
Toothpick drones are FPV drones that work like full-size drones, but are much smaller and lighter. The incredible power-to-weight ratio makes flying these small quads a lot of fun.
Want something compact with decent flight performance? Then check out the GEPRC Smart 35 - a 3.5-inch freestyle FPV drone with a total weight of under 250g.
You can find all versions of the GEPRC SMART HD here:
But why 3.5"?
3.5″ aims to find the perfect balance between durability, weight and performance to offer the best possible handling while staying under 250g total weight.
The GEPRC Smart 35 is already equipped with a power cable for connecting an HD camera and a mount for the Naked GoPro 8 is also included. Of course, you can also use other HD cameras of your choice. The Naked GoPro weighs only 27g. With the integrated stabilization or with Reelsteady you can get amazing footage.
Let's move on to the flight performance
Higher KV and smaller props ensure that the RPM is much higher, making the quad feel more agile and responsive. It is definitely suitable for freestyle. If you find a 5″ quad too scary to fly in busy parks for example, the 3.5″ Toothpick might be a better choice. It's quieter and behaves very similarly to a 5″.
Check out Martin's first test flight here:
The FPV camera doesn't stick out of the frame and is well protected by the front spacers. The battery cable (XT30) has no strain relief, so you should probably also attach it to one of the rear spacers. The GEPRC Smart 35 is not designed for a long range. however, 4-5 minutes is already possible.
Martin's conclusion
Although 3.5" is currently still a rather marginal group of propeller sizes, we seem to have found the sweet spot of size, weight, performance and striped camera here! We are excited to see what else will be coming soon in the 3.5" sector!
